On the 14th of January, 2024, the Guru Nanak College of Pharmaceutical Sciences celebrated Lohri with vibrant enthusiasm and cultural richness. The college courtyard was transformed into a festive arena, beautifully decorated with traditional Punjabi motifs and filled with the joyous sounds of folk music. Central to the celebration was the lighting of a grand bonfire, around which students gathered to offer peanuts, popcorn, sesame seeds, and jaggery, symbolizing gratitude and the end of winter.
The event was marked by lively Bhangra and Gidda performances, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of the dhol, which enlivened the atmosphere and encouraged everyone to participate. Traditional Punjabi delicacies such as makki di roti and sarson da saag were served, enhancing the festive spirit with authentic flavors. Stories and legends, including the tale of Dulla Bhatti, were shared, enriching the cultural experience and connecting students with the festival's historical significance. Nearly all students from the Pharmaceutical department took part, fostering a sense of unity and cultural appreciation. The Lohri celebration was a memorable event, highlighting the importance of cultural traditions in enriching student life and contributing to their holistic development.
